Two keynote addresses are scheduled during the day — an opening address and a closing address. The keynote speakers will play an essential role as they address the entire audience and set the tone for the day’s discussion. The keynote address is allotted 60 minutes including time for questions from the audience.
DR. James Hartert
Chief Medical Officer, MinuteClinic
Morning Keynote Address
James E. Hartert, Chief Medical Officer of MinuteClinic, joined the Minneapolis-based company in 2008. As Chief Medical Officer, James oversees strategic alliances, physician management, clinical services and quality for the company’s 500 clinics in 25 states. He has more than 25 years of senior management and clinical experience, with a strong track record of innovative leadership and a diverse array of large, high visibility, complex health system expertise.
Prior to joining MinuteClinic, James served as senior vice president and Chief Medical Officer of Prime Therapeutics where he advanced their most critical product and clinical initiatives and was a frequent spokesperson to the industry, media and government on key health care issues. Before Prime Therapeutics, James served as Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Cobalt Corporation. In that capacity, he led medical management activities for Blue Cross Blue Shield United of Wisconsin and Cobalt’s other health plans. Additionally, Jim directed Cobalt’s national specialty service companies. His career experiences also include the Chief Medical Officer position at Humana Health Care Plans Kentucky market, the Associate Medical Director post at HealthPartners, a Minnesota-based HMO, and extensive clinical practice in Geriatric and General Internal Medicine.
James graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics. He also holds a masters degree in administrative medicine from the University of Wisconsin Medical School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American College of Physician Executives and has been active in a variety of community and industry boards and associations.

Chief Imagineer, Revolution Health
Closing Keynote Address
As president of Revolution Health’s Employer/Employee Group, Jay is responsible for serving the needs of employees and their employers through co-branded employer portals, direct to business membership sales, and working with employers to enable their employees to select their own health insurance plans.
Prior to Revolution Health, Jay was Chief Branding Officer of Health Net Inc. Prior to Health Net Inc. he was Chief Marketing Officer and member of the Executive Council at United Healthcare. Over his 20-year tenure, Jay has been instrumental in major sector shifts, including the development of the Point-of-Service category, the integration of complementary medicine into mainstream insurance, and the launch of physician report cards. Before joining United Healthcare, Jay was the EVP, Chief Imagineer at Oxford Health Plans. Jay is on the Strategic Advisory Board for Health Horizons/Institute for the Future.
